Advantages and Disadvantages of Transparent Braces

Are you in the market to straighten your smile, but worried about how metal braces will affect your appearance? Then you might want to check out transparent braces. Also known as ceramic braces or clear braces, they work just like metal braces do to correct your teeth, but are less noticeable in your mouth.

The main advantage of this type of orthodontic treatment is that it is nearly invisible in your mouth, which can make it a popular choice for adults and older teenagers. However, it is not the right option for everyone because it may take a little longer to reach your desired results due to its durability and the fact that you have to wear the trays consistently (at least 22 hours every day) to get the best results.

Transparent Braces: A Modern Solution for Straighter Teeth

Unlike traditional metal braces, clear braces don’t stain easily. This is because the brackets are made from clear materials such as porcelain or sapphire. These are resistant to discoloration and will not show up when you consume foods or drinks that could stain them (such as red pasta sauce, red wine, coffee, beets, etc.). Having said that, it is recommended that you still limit these types of foods and always brush your teeth regularly with a soft-bristled brush.

Another downside of transparent braces is that they are larger than conventional metal braces, which can make them harder to clean properly. This can be especially problematic for younger patients because they may have a hard time keeping track of the trays and may accidentally lose or misplace them.
